Celebrating Mothers & Honoring Matrescence
Today, this is my office and it couldn’t be more dreamy. Between feedings and belly rubs, this is where I’m answering emails and writing. This is where I’m reading about creative visualization and putting it into practice; I’m daydreaming, and contemplating what I want for the days, months and years to come.
I’m grateful for the extra time to slowly ease back in to coaching and creative work because life after childbirth is NEVER the same!
Our queen size mattress is in the living room while our new king size mattress takes form in our bedroom. Adjustments are being made; patience, flexibility, and support are key in this postpartum era.
Matrescence, or the transition to motherhood, is the period of a woman’s lifecycle when her brain is most neuroplastic, allowing her to naturally attune to the needs of her baby. This is a time of unprecedented vulnerability and she NEEDS support and space to develop this invaluable bond with her baby.
Often, mothers are fed “advice” about what is best for their baby and family— from parents, doctors, so-called experts. This can cause counterproductive pressure to do what’s “right”, feelings of guilt if said advice doesn’t “work”, and feelings of disappointment about not conforming to society’s expectations.
BUT the truth and science shows us that mothers develop this wisdom through maternal brain neuroplasticity and rewiring throughout matrescence. With support, space, tools and various resources, parents can learn to access this inner wisdom. Like all self-development, it takes skill, practice and deep commitment.
In 1:1 coaching, I love to partner with mothers and parents to help them to access this inner wisdom, tune out the external pressures, and apply this intrinsic knowledge to parenting (and life in general). Many of us aren’t granted the support and space essential to thrive during this postpartum period. I feel fortunate that I was, and I’m passionate about supporting and empowering other women through this transformative process. This work is invaluable! I believe when we support mothers, the whole world benefits.🌎
Who are you celebrating this Mother’s Day?
I’m celebrating all of the mothers & motherers of the world raising humans — big & small. Your work is necessary and you are precious!
We wouldn’t exist without you.
THANK YOU✨
